Overview
What is a hydrocele?
A hydrocele is a collection of fluid in the scrotum. It is not always known whey they develop, and can often be alone. However, sometimes there is an underlying problem with a testicle so it is important to have it reviewed by a urologist to discuss if treatment is needed.
Treatment
Hydrocele repair
This is an operation to drain fluid from around the testicle through an incision in the scrotal skin. The bag of tissue that contained the fluid is everted or excised so the fluid collection is less likely to recur in the future. This is performed under a short general anaesthetic on a day surgery basis.
