Urology
Also known as genitourinary surgery, urology is a part of health care that focuses on diseases that occur in the male and female urinary tracts. It also deals with any problems that affect the male reproductive organs. Urologic health problems can happen to anyone, therefore it’s crucial to understand urology and be able to recognise what some of the more common conditions might be.
Urology covers the following organs:
- Kidneys
- Urinary bladder
- Ureters
- Urethra
- Male reproductive organs
Our team of urologists are all surgeons, but many of our patients who see one of our urologists will not always require surgery. Many conditions can be treated through prescriptions or ongoing medical management. The important thing is to seek help as early as possible to allow for early diagnosis and more time to deal with any conditions.
Essex
Essex is a county in the southeast of England. Its county town is Chelmsford which is known for being the birthplace of the radio after Guglielmo Marconi opened the world’s first wireless factory there in 1899. There are a number of large and highly-populated towns in Essex, but Chelmsford is the only city in the county.
Due to Essex’s close proximity to London, it’s an extremely popular location for commuters who work in the financial heart of the country. Essex has vast expanses of countryside and numerous picturesque villages and towns which appeal to people who work in London but don’t want to live there. With many of Essex’s larger towns being in what’s known as the commuter belt, they have seen rapid growth and increase in population over time.
The Roman invasion in AD 43 began in Essex when Claudius and his army arrived in what is modern-day Kent on the south coast. The whole history of Essex was shaped by this invasion, with Colchester, under the name Camulodunum, becoming the first capital of Roman Britain. After Boudica revolted, the title of capital was passed onto London, however, Colchester retained its title as Britain’s oldest recorded town. Colchester Castle still remains as a key landmark in the town, and a statue of Boudica stands near Big Ben on Westminster bridge, a testament to her brave actions.
Essex is home to a number of fantastic attractions, such as Southend Pier which is in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest pleasure pier in the world. Colchester Zoo houses over 250 species of animals and is considered to have one of the most extensive ranges of cats and primates in Europe. Waltham Abbey Church is one of the best-preserved examples of Norman architecture in the UK and has been a place of worship since as far back as the 7th Century.
In terms of sport, Essex has a lot to boast about. There are two Essex-based football teams which compete in the professional football league, Colchester United and Southend United. Based in Chelmsford, Essex County Cricket Club is a first-class county and has produced famous players such as Ravi Bopara and former England Cricket Captain Sir Alastair Cook. Gymnast Max Whitlock trained in South Essex Gymnastics Club in Basildon before going on to win five Olympic medals and eight World medals.
